madness for two in the United States

The antihero musical comedy by Todd Phillips, starring Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga, obtained the worst score for a film based on a comic book.

Released on October 2, 2024 in and two days later in the United States, Joker: Folie à Deux was undoubtedly one of the most anticipated films of the year. However, the film got off to a start well below expectations. It recently earned a CinemaScore rating of D on its release day, becoming the first Hollywood comic book film in history to earn a D CinemaScore from audiences.
In comparison, the first film Joker had received a solid B+ from the cinema platform. Web polls are just as bad, as audiences express their displeasure with this antihero-musical mash-up.

Currently Joker: Folie à deux achieves less than half of the turnover of the first Joker at its launch, despite a production cost three times higher, i.e. 190 million dollars (173 million euros). The film should collect between 35 and 42 million dollars (31 and 38 million euros) at the American box office at the end of its first weekend. Or three times less than Joker first of the name.

In 2019, DC Comics made an impact with the feature film Joker. In addition to winning the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival and two Oscars, including one awarded to Joaquin Phoenix, the film exceeded $1 billion at the worldwide box office, for a budget estimated at $60 million (54 million euros).
At the same time, it became the most lucrative film in history, before being overtaken this summer by Deadpool & Wolverine from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. A success that seems impossible to achieve for the second part of this film.

Abroad, Joker: madness for two currently achieves a figure of 81.1 million dollars (74 million euros). Although these results brought some relief, it still remains far behind the first Joker. In the next two weeks, the film will be released in Japan and China, which could strengthen its box office numbers.
