Having barely arrived on Netflix, this very gory horror film with a strong political message has already won support on the platform, ranking directly at number 1 of the top.

Platform 2 has been online on Netflix since Friday October 4, 2024. Released four years after the first opus, Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia’s horrific behind closed doors visibly leaves its mark by finding itself at the head of ’s top most-viewed films. Furthermore, The Platform first of the name still remains in fifth place among the most viewed non-English-language films in Netflix history. In the plot, prisoners reside in a tower-shaped prison. A slab (called the platform), carrying food, goes down from floor to floor to feed them. They must rely on prisoners who have been incarcerated for months to learn how to survive.

With Milena Smit, Platform 2 a hit on Netflix against a backdrop of social satire.

In this Spanish dystopian thriller prohibited for those under 18, the political message is strong: those who can stuff themselves, that is to say the prisoners on the upper floors. In fact, the platform, covered with food, makes a vertical descent of the tower from top to bottom. The lower floors, down to the last one, 333, suffer from hunger and the prisoners kill each other for the crumbs. In Platform 2Perempuán (Milena Smit) and Zamiatín (Hovik Keuchkerian) play two fellow inmates with a troubled past. We discover, as the film progresses, the interview they had with a mysterious person before entering the prison. Once they arrive in their cell, they discover the system in force: when the platform carrying the food arrives, they must only eat their favorite dish, chosen before entering the prison. If inmates are caught eating other foods, they find themselves severely punished by an authoritarian group. The latter decided to enforce the law by subjecting the rebels to ill-treatment.

The clever link between Platform 2 and the first opus of Ask Castle Distance

In this kind of vision of carceral communism, the heroine, Perempuán, tries to survive but finds herself mistreated by the group whose mission is to scrupulously enforce the law at all costs. She then decides to lead a rebellion with the support of a second fellow prisoner, mutilated, played by Natalia Tena. Going down to the lower floors, the two try to convince the others to join their cause. Furthermore, this prequel takes on its full meaning towards the middle of the feature film. Trimagasi (Zorion Eguileor), an experienced inmate in the first opus, appears as a new kid in the second part. And he is already showing his selfishness. Also, a link unites the heroine of Platform 2, Perempuán, with one of the characters from the first opus.
