A Netflix horror film in the middle of time travel: trailer for Time Cut

Netflix’s next teenage horror film arrives on the platform on October 30. The trailer for Time Cut just fell.

Since the success of the saga Fear Streetwhose three films were released on Netflix in the summer of 2021 in the wake of the phenomenon Stranger Thingsthe platform seems determined to further exploit the vein of horror for teenagers. While there is already talk of the VOD giant relaunching the horror trilogy, today it is the film Time Cutproduced by ACE Entertainment, which is set to serve as a Halloween show on the platform.

Directed by Hannah MacPherson, to whom we owe various episodes of series like Into the Dark, You’ve been t@gged et School Spiritsce slasher de science-fiction features a student (Madison Bailey, seen in Outer Banks) who goes back in time to save his sister, whose murder has never been solved. And the trailer is reminiscent of some classics of the genre.

Time Cut goes back in time on Netflix

Since Back to the Future proved that adolescent discomfort and time travel went hand in handthis trope and the humor that goes with it regularly return to our screens. So, the trailer for Time Cut is reminiscent, in its subject and its tone sometimes violent and sometimes lightthe very good horror comedy by Christopher Landon Happy Birthdeadluck of Endless Day slasher version in which a young woman constantly relives the day of her own murder.

It must be said that Time Cut is co-written by Hannah MacPherson and Michael Kennedy, himself already co-writer of the slasher comedy Freakyreleased in 2020 and also directed by Christopher Landon. But even more, the pitch outlined by these images devilishly echoes that of Totally Killera Blumhouse film released in 2023 on Prime Video, in which Kiernan Shipka played a student who went back in time to escape her killer.

Colors like Fear Street

Brief, Time Cut has the very visible desire to play with known and popular codeswhich appeal to a young audience. The high school setting, the pop colors, the neon lights and the slew of pimply secondary characters make it easy to identify at first glance a chemically pure case of teenage moviewith just the right amount of gore on top to spice things up.

At this point, the question will be whether the film compares well with its models without making a pale copyand if he manages to manage the balance between second degree and real horrific tension. In any case, teenagers will have something to eat for Halloween, since Time Cut arrives on Netflix October 30 2024.
