The prefect launches the alert: Météo France places the whole department in a vigilance avalanche with a high risk on the massifs of Ubaye and Haut-Verdon.
-Vigilance is level four out of five. This decision follows the strong snowfall on the heights of the massifs: 10 to 20 centimeters of fresh snow fell in the night from 1,600 meters, specifies the weather expert Paul Marquis on X.
The risk of avalanche with spontaneous departures is strong. It is maximum if a skier or a hiker goes to the wrong place. It is therefore recommended not to leave the open, groomed and marked tracks.
“If you practice hiking, ski touring or off-piste, you evolve at your own risk and perils and engage the safety of rescuers in the event of an accident“, Recalls a press release from the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence prefect. It is also recommended to bring a DVA: an avalanche victims detector, a reflector, a shovel and of An individual probe.
Above all, do not go alone and indicate your route and your return time.
