This pact is based on twelve key commitments intended to improve the health of Stéphanois, with a strong emphasis on the prevention of avoidable cancers.

An essential lever: prevention

Every day, approximately 1,200 new cases of cancer are diagnosed in . According to Charlotte Marchand, head of partnerships at the National Cancer Institute, 40% of cancers could be avoided through preventive action targeted at factors such as tobacco, alcohol, diet, and physical activity. By signing this charter, the City intends to strengthen local initiatives such as the promotion of local products, the development of green spaces, the establishment of cycle paths and the ban on cigarettes in certain public places.

Financial support and concrete actions

The mayor of Saint-Étienne, Gaël Perdriaustressed the importance of awareness and screening campaigns in the fight against cancer. The City devotes each year 100 000 euros to this cause, of which 17 000 euros dedicated to the purchase of medical equipment. These efforts are part of an overall health budget of 2 million eurosstrengthening support for local associations active in the health field.

Commitments in detail

By joining the “Local authorities and cancer prevention” club, Saint-Étienne will benefit from communication tools, a resource center, and personalized support from the National Cancer Institute. Among the commitments made, the City undertakes in particular to:
