While waiting for season 4 of the series The Witcherthe Witcher returns to Netflix with The Sirens of the Abysswhich was revealed in a new trailer.
The franchise The Witcher, developed by CD Projekt Red, it is a monstrous heavyweight in the video game industry, with more than 75 million copies sold around the world, including 50 million for the The Witcher 3 : Wild Hunt. Sensing the right vein, Netflix undertook an adaptation into a live-action series, which despite a good note of intention and high expectations, turned out to be nothing more than chewing gum entertainment, immediately chewed, immediately forgotten. After three complicated seasons, star Henry Cavill has decided to leave the series.
For season 4, he will therefore be replaced by Liam Hemsworth and Netflix has already announced that season 5 of The Witcher will be the last. Nevertheless, the universe of Geralt of Rivia intends to continue to expand on the platform, in particular through animated films. After the dispensable The Wolf’s NightmareNetflix announced The Sirens of the Abyssinspired by the short story A Little Sacrifice d’Andrzej Sapkowski. A few weeks before its release on the red N platform, the animated film reveals itself a little more in a nervous trailer.
The Return of The Witcher (again)
The trailer for The Witcher: Sirens of the Abyss presents a dark and sticky atmosphere, faithful to the spirit of the franchise. The film will take place between episodes 5 and 6 of season 1 of The Witcher and we will find Geralt of Rivia, hired to investigate a series of attacks in a coastal village. Quickly, he will find himself involved in an ancestral conflict between humans and underwater peoples.
The images reveal numerous action sequences, delivering a veritable maxi best-of menu of Geralt’s martial skills, with many sword blows and other magical spells, facing threatening sea creatures, all sprinkled with a good dose spurts of blood.
Once again produced by the Mir studio, this new animated film The Witcher maintains the guideline of the precedent The Wolf’s Nightmarewith a style borrowing from both the live-action series and CD Projekt games.
The trailer also suggests an exploration of themes dear to the saga, such as the tensions between different races and the moral dilemmas faced by Geralt. It should be noted, however, that the marine settings of the abyssal depths, where part of the plot takes place, should bring a little variety to the saga.
On the vocal casting side, Doug Cockle will provide voice for the role of Geralt, which he had already played in the video game saga. Joey Batey, known for his portrayal of Jaskier in the live-action series, also reprises his role as the bard. Doug Cockle has also publicly expressed his enthusiasm on the official Netflix website. :
“I am very happy to announce my return to the world of The Witcher as the singer of Geralt of Rivia. I’m thrilled to be able to share this new chapter in the White Wolf’s journey with fans of The Witcher universe. »
The Witcher: Sirens of the Abyss is expected on Netflix on February 11, 2025.
