Time flies so quickly that a new feature film Avatar is already preparing to enter our cinemas. Unlike the second opus – The Way of Water – which took thirteen long years before arriving in December 2022, the third film will only have made us wait three years. The journey of Jake Sully and his family will continue on December 17, 2025 in Avatar : Fire and Ash (which France will certainly rename Fire and Ashes). Less than twelve months before its release, the feature film is finally accelerating its promotion. A brief visit to the D23 Brazil last November already allowed us to discover some promising concept art as well as the title of the project.

After air and water, it is fire’s turn to be highlighted. But it is nevertheless nomadic merchants traveling in the skies that James Cameron has been content to present to us until now. Where are the flames and the ashes? Just ask: the British magazine Empire has just revealed the first chapter of a wide-ranging interview with the filmmaker, which will present new aspects of the planet Pandora throughout the year. Here's what you need to remember.

The true potential ofAvatar

After two opuses focused more on technical prowess than on the construction of a convincing scenario, Avatar : Fire and Ash promises to exploit the full potential of its rich universe. The third part will finally move away from duality “evil humans, good Na'vi“ by introducing a new tribe as the main antagonist. The Clan of Ashes is led by a certain Varang – to which the actress Oona Chaplin lends her features, or rather her body for the motion capture – whom James Cameron presents as a complex character, ready to risk everything for his people.

By transporting us to territories still unknown to Pandora, the film will seek to show us that the planet, as beautiful as it is, is not a simple haven of peace. The filmmaker emphasizes the tortured character of the Clan of Ashes, who likely experienced ordeals that changed them forever, for better or for worse. Everything suggests that humans will not be to blame this time and that we will finally discover the hidden side of the native people of Pandora.

Empire now gives us an appointment every monthuntil the launch of the film next December, to learn more about Avatar : Fire and Ash. But one thing is certain: this new feature film will have to redouble its efforts to captivate spectators now that the effect of expectation and surprise is no longer as strong as in 2022.
