Jod, that's precisely where it gets stuck for me. Seeing him ready to kill children in cold blood (as well as the entire population of At Attin, for that matter) just doesn't fit with what we've seen of the character so far! This kind of pirate would not have given a chance to surrender to the Republican captain at the beginning, for example. Throughout his monologue in the cockpit, I found Jude Law's acting quite bad, it seemed like he was trying to convince himself of what he was saying…
Actually, I don't think he would have done it
he plays the tough guy, the bad pirate but he's completely bluffing
and when he yells at them like “you're weak, you're spoiled!” the way he says it makes me think that he had such a violent disappointment in his childhood (novice or surviving padawan? and/or other unfortunate experiences)
the old pirate seems too sentimental with him
I thought Fern was going to counter-clash him or that one of the kids was going to put his back against the wall but they're acting terrified so I really don't get the idea of the hug while they're still in danger!!!
