Set after the end of “Cobra Kai,” the plot follows Li Fong (Ming-Na Wen), a Chinese teenager who moves to New York with his mother. Adapting to his new environment and school is difficult, which leads him to get involved in a karate competition.
To prepare Li, his trainer, Mr. Han (Jackie Chan), seeks the help of Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio). The union of these two legendary characters aims to transform Li into the definitive Karate Kid. An emotional phrase from Mr. Han convinces Daniel to join the challenge: “Li means to me what you meant to Sensei Miyagi.”
The figure of Mr. Miyagi, fundamental in the original trilogy, is still present in “Karate Kid: Legends”. Jonathan Entwistle, director of the film, highlighted that the connection between the Miyagi family and the Han family has deep roots: “The Han family and the Miyagi family have been connected since ancient times. And there is a mention in ‘The Karate Kid’ of this, for those people who want to go look for it.”
Jackie Chan, who returns to play Mr. Han fifteen years later, has been instrumental in the making of this film.
