After the incredible success of Deadpool 3and Deadpool 4 obviously seems on the horizon. But Ryan Reynolds isn't betting too much on it.
There has only been one Marvel movie in 2024 and it was not arrived since Avengers in 2012since Disney has made a habit of flooding the market with two, three or even four MCU blockbusters per year. But the studio had flair since, on its own, Deadpool & Wolverine has garnered 1,3 milliard au box-office. It's almost as much as Guardians of the Galaxy 3 (845 millions), Ant-Man 3 (476 million) and The Marvels (206 million) combined, they who had occupied the year 2023.
With such a score, Deadpool & Wolverine entered into the top 10 biggest hits in the MCUbehind Avengers : Endgame (2.7 billion), Avengers : Infinity War (2 billion), Spider-Man : No Way Home (1.9 billion), Avengers (1.5 billion), and Avengers 2 (1.3 billion). It's therefore quite a debut for the character created by Fabian Nicieza and Rob Liefeld, who had been purchased with the 20th Century Fox studio by Disney in 2019.
Deadpool 4 is it on the horizon? Will Wade come and make jokes about his balls in the middle of the fight against Doctor Doom in Avengers : Doomsday et Avengers : Secret Wars ? Ryan Reynolds gave his opinion on the matter.
DEADPOOL MUST REMAIN A “SURPRISE”
Every year, Variety organise ses interviews Actors on Actorswhich allow two artists to discuss their work in pretty armchairs, being very nice, well-haired and well-made. In 2024, there are Angelina Jolie and Cynthia Erivo, Kate Winslet and Zoë Saldaña, Demi Moore and Amy Adams, Adrien Brody and Tilda Swinton, Zendaya and Nicole Kidman, or even Andrew Garfield et Ryan Reynolds. And if you're wondering what the actor Deadpool 3 comes in the middle of all these people launched into the race for the Oscars: it's an excellent question.
In any case, he explained what he thought of the character of Deadpooland talked about the investment that such films require:
“Honestly, for me the character works well in two ways. In rarity and surprise. It's been six years since the last one, and that's partly because it's taking over my whole life. I have four children, and I never want to be an absentee father. (…) I don't know what the future of Deadpool will be, but I know that we made this film so that it would be a complete experience, rather than an advertisement for another. »
A RETURN OF DEADPOOL, BUT NOT DEADPOOL 4
Ryan Reynolds explains above all that according to him, the character is not made to hold a film on his shoulders. This is the case in Deadpool et Deadpool 2, but he was a supporting role in X-Men Origins : Wolverine and he shared the poster with Wolverine in Deadpool 3. And apparently, that's what the actor prefers:
“Deadpool is much more of a supporting character than the center of everything. We put him in the center because that's what they want, but we can't put him in the center without taking everything away from him. We have to create a situation where he is completely the underdog. I don't think I can do that again. »
However, no one is fooled. Marvel will inevitably do everything to ensure that their new superstar, acquired with the entire Fox catalog for some 71 billion, returns to the MCU. He will inevitably have his place, among the faces of yesterday (was Captain Marvel “killed” by The Marvels ? Who wants to see Thor again after Love and Thunder ?), those of tomorrow (Fantastic Fourthe new Captain America) and the others (The Eternals are they going to be thrown in the trash? west Shang-Chi ?).
And if that's not not in Deadpool 4it will be in other people's films :
“If he comes back, it has to be in someone else’s movie. »
Ryan Reynolds reiterates that he would like to see a film on Channing Tatum's Gambit, which appeared in Deadpool & Wolverine. But before such a thing happens, there will be Captain America 4 : Brave New World (released February 12, 2025), Thunderbolts* (released April 30), Fantastic Four (July 23), Avengers : Doomsday (avril 2026)the fourth Spider-Man (July 2026) and Avengers : Secret Wars (May 2027). That's already a lot of possibilities to prop up a little Deadpool.
