the animated film breaks records at the French box office

“Moana 2” looks set to surpass its previous opus at the box office, posting an even more spectacular start than the first part and eclipsing two other animated hits of the year: “Vice-Versa 2” and “Ugly Me and wicked 4”.

A triumph announced. After the success of “Moana: Legend at the End of the World” in 2016, Disney is once again hitting hard with the second opus, released on November 27. The animated film literally overwhelmed French cinemas, notably on November 29, when nearly 700,000 spectators responded to the call, an impressive average of more than 200 spectators per screening.

With 456,273 admissions recorded in 647 French theaters, “Vaiana 2” surpassed not only the launch of its previous one, but also that of all films released in 2024. For comparison, the first part attracted 311,041 spectators on the Wednesday of its release. released in 2016, crossing the million mark in the first weekend and peaking at 5.6 million entries at the end of the run.

This year, animated films had already made a good start, but remained far behind this dazzling start. “Vice-Versa 2” brought together 527,504 spectators (with previews) in 650 theaters upon its release on June 19 or 297,681 without that. “Despicable Me 4” ranks third with 208,874 admissions in 801 theaters for its launch on July 10, reaching 458,421 tickets including previews.

In the United States, where the sequel was initially conceived as a series for the Disney+ platform, the film took advantage of the Thanksgiving weekend to debut with fanfare after a first Wednesday with more than 50 million dollars.

This start confirmed the lasting popularity of the heroine, whose first adventure remains the most viewed in streaming, all platforms combined.
