A new and exciting project has just been announced by The Hollywood Reporter! Ryan Coogler will produce the film adaptation of the graphic novel “A Vicious Circle”, a science fiction work between “John Wick” and “Looper”.
Ryan Coogler, director of the Black Panther saga and the first episode of Creed, will soon embark on the production of an ambitious project! According to The Hollywood Reporterthe director will team up with Mattson Tomlin for the adaptation of his graphic novel: A Vicious Circle.
Tomlin previously wrote and directed Mother/Android, released in 2021 on Netflix. He will adapt his work himself by signing the script for A Vicious Circle. However, we do not yet know who will direct the feature film because Coogler will only be a producer.
Between John Wick and Looper
It is a futuristic action thriller in which assassins hunt each other through time. The story therefore follows Shawn Thacker, a killer from the future. Since the murder of his family, he has sought revenge on the only man to share the same curse as him: being thrown through time and space every time they take a human life.
From 22nd century Tokyo to 1950s New Orleans, through the Jurassic era and beyond, the two rivals clash violently in the hope of changing the course of history. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the project is a clever mix between John Wick and Looper. As a reminder, Looper was directed by Rian Johnson in 2012.
The story, led by Bruce Willis and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, took us to the near future. The Mafia has developed an infallible system to make all inconvenient witnesses disappear. It sends its victims into the past, to our time, where a new type of killer (the “Loopers”) eliminates them. One day, one of them, Joe, discovers that the victim he is to execute is none other than… himself, 20 years older. The well-oiled machine goes off the rails…
Note that Mattson Tomlin worked on the screenplay for The Batman 2 with Robert Pattinson, expected in theaters on September 30, 2026. His graphic novel, A Vicious Circlewas a commercial success with over 100,000 copies of the first two issues sold worldwide to date.
Ryan Coogler reunites with his accomplice
For his part, Ryan Coogler will reunite with his friend Michael B. Jordan for a new film… biting! According to Deadline, the two artists are preparing a work with a story that is still kept secret. We just know that this story should be set around the 1930s and that it would involve vampires.
According to journalist Borys Kit of The Hollywood Reporter, this collaboration between Ryan Coogler and Michael B. Jordan will be very influenced by Japanese anime. This would not be surprising especially knowing the actor’s passion for One Piece, Dragon Ball or Naruto. He clearly claimed these inspirations for his creation of Creed III. This project will arrive in theaters on March 5, 2025.
