this film is the worst in the saga for Tolkien's grandson

Simon Tolkien, the grandson of JRR Tolkien, watched Peter Jackson's films, and enjoyed them, unlike Christopher, the novelist's son. However, according to him, one of the opuses of the trilogy Lord of the Rings is weaker than the others. Although his point of view is necessarily influenced by his relationship with the author of the original work, his argument is entirely understandable.

This film from Lord of the Rings criticized by Tolkien's grandson

Also author (the policeman Dark Shine), Simon Tolkien, a 65-year-old British lawyer, did not fail to reveal his opinion on the trilogy of Lord of the Rings, directed by Peter Jackson in the early 2000s. The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers et The Return of the King constitutes an epic, moving and abundant fresco whose cinematographic qualities earned him a shower of Oscars. Considered one of the most successful adaptations of the Seventh , this saga is a real reference among film buffs. If the descendants of the novelist recognize the value of this work, they express some reservations concerning the narration. Thus, Simon Tolkien told the BBC that he prefers the first part to the last, which he considers weaker, particularly in its treatment of the characters.

In fact, I find that it is the weakest of the three…The problem is that there is so much happening in so many places that, unlike The Fellowship of the Ringwhere everyone is gathered for the trip, we no longer really know who does what. […] I think there are some wonderful things in this film, but a lot of the battle scenes and special effects should have been removed, and further develop the characters.

There is no doubt that the descendants of JRR Tolkien are very vigilant regarding adaptations of the Lord of the Ringsand criticize the vision that other artists have on the work of their ancestor. Simon Tolkien does not fail to wonder about the way his grandfather would have judged the films by Peter Jackson, and his own comments are also a result of this introspection.

And you, what do you think? Which film in the trilogy do you find “the least good”?
