New films and series to watch on Netflix from November 8 to 14, 2024

Netflix releases a number of films and series into its catalog every week, without anyone noticing them or the platform officially announcing it. Écran Large looks back at the new features added by Netflix from November 8 to 14, 2024, films and series combined in a non-exhaustive list.

What are the films and series not to be missed this week on the streaming platform ?

THE CAGE

  • Already available
  • Duration: 5 episodes between 40 min and 1 hour.

What it's about: Taylor is a young French MMA fighter who dreams of turning pro, but struggles to get noticed, until the day when an unexpected fight offers him the chance of his life. To win the belt and repay his parents' debts, however, he will have to face a worthy opponent in the cage.

Why should you watch it? Because an octagon cannot be refused. More seriously, The Cage is the new creation of Franck Gastambide which we therefore find behind, but also in front of the camera after his role in the muscular remake of Wages of Fear (also for Netflix). The director of Taxi 5 dive this time into the merciless world of MMA and if the trailer is to be believed, his series does not seem stingy when it comes to blows that hurt, especially since it has several real fighters to appeal to fans of the discipline.

It is also an opportunity to discover a little more about young Melvin Boomerthis time in a very different and probably more demanding role than the one he played in the dramatic comedy Midwife. After all, he has every chance on his side since he practices breakdancing and capoeira. You never know, we may be witnessing the beginnings of a future action leader made in .

ALITA: BATTLE ANGEL

  • Already available
  • Duration: 2h02

Rollerball

What it's about: 2563, on a half-devastated Earth. Doctor Dyson Ido, specialized in biomechanics, finds the body of a young cyborg. He decides to repair her and raise her as if she were his own daughter, under the name Alita. But Alita, endowed with extraordinary abilities, wants to know who she is and where she comes from. And when the corrupt forces that run Iron City come after her, she will have no choice but to find the answers.

Why should you watch it? Because this Alita : Battle Angel East a work apart in the career of James Cameron. Passionate about manga Gun by Yukito Kishiro since the 90s, the director of Terminator et Aliens, the return thought for a long time that he was going to manage the adaptation himself, before being caught up in Avatar and its aftermath. So he ended up choose Robert Robriguez (Sin City, Planet Terror) to film the script he had co-written with Laeta Kalogridis.

Robert Rodriguez is the first to say it: Alita : Battle Angel is above all a James Cameron filmon which he did his best to live up to it. The result is not lacking in flaws, whether in terms of adaptation or writing, but the film demonstrates a quite exciting visual and technical ambition.

However, since it was not a success worthy of the name at the cinema (405 million at the box office, for a budget excluding marketing of 170 million), Alita : Battle Angel was not entitled to a sequel. And barring a miracle, there won't be any.

Cry Macho

  • Available on Netflix from November 10
  • Duration: 1h44

A door as red as the N of Netflix

What is it about? A fallen rodeo star agrees to pick up his former boss's young son from Mexico, where the boy lives with his unstable mother.

Why should you watch it? Cry Macho did not necessarily receive good press when it was released and many thought that it signaled the end of Clint Eastwood's talent as a director (and actor). Not only were the critics wrong about the retirement of this cinema legend since, three years later, Clint Eastwood returned with the exciting Juror No. 2but even more, its Cry Macho deserved better.

A tender neo-western, this 40th feature film was a “tender take on the bygone myths of the West” to quote the words of our Clint lover, Antoine. For him, despite his faults, “like a wonderful cinema grandfather, Eastwood fully embraces his fictional alias to deliver the touching life lessons of a man who has worked his butt off”. For any fan of American cinema, it is difficult to miss Cry Macho SO.

BUT ALSO…

Dan Da Dan season 1, Operation Banco Central, We apologize for the inconvenience, The Return of the King: Elvis Presley's Fall and Climax, My Handsome Snowman, The Lost Children: 40 Days in the Jungle, Two Sisters Named Guerra, The penguin mothers…
