“L’Amour ouf”, “The Count of Monte Cristo”, “A Little Something Extra”… French films continue to boost theater attendance in France.
After “Monte-Cristo” and “Un p’tit truc en plus”, it is the turn of “L’Amour ouf” and “Monsieur Aznavour”, to attract spectators en masse to the cinemas.
With 15.53 million spectators, this month of October indeed achieved the best scores since the Covid-19 pandemic. According to figures published by the National Cinema Center (CNC) on Monday, attendance is up 10.8% over one year.
In total, for the first ten months of 2024 – even though the January-April period was heavily impacted by the scarcity of American film releases following strikes in Hollywood, analyzes the CNC – attendance is no longer only a very slight decline compared to that of the first ten months of 2023, with 143.21 million admissions, or -3.2%.
The CNC notes that the share of French films is very high over this period, representing more than 45% of admissions alone. In October 2024, 13 American films and 37 French films were released in theaters, compared to 5 and 29 films respectively in 2023.
Released on October 16, “L’Amour ouf” by Gilles Lellouche, with François Civil and Adèle Exarchopoulos as headliners, recorded the biggest success of the month of October with more than three million admissions. As for “Monsieur Aznavour” with Tahar Rahim, released on October 23, it ranks fourth in the monthly Top with nearly 1 million entries.
The two feature films thus follow in the footsteps of the phenomena “A little thing in addition”, the comedy by Artus on mental disability, which has recorded 10.7 million admissions since its release in May, and “ The Count of Monte Cristo”, which since June 28 has attracted 9.2 million spectators.
