Deadpool 3 is already breaking box office records, and Marvel needed it after its flops

Even before its release, Deadpool 3 a.k.a Deadpool & Wolverine with Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman is already breaking some box office records, and this is obviously good news for Marvel Studios.

Unsurprisingly, Ryan Reynolds doesn’t care about you (and Marvel) to sell Deadpool 3. As expected, the film’s marketing plays on the aspects that made the first two films successful Dead Poolnamely meta humor and the dirty kid side, which will gently make fun of Disney and Marvel.

And after a year 2023 marked by the failure ofAnt-Man 3 and the disaster of The Marvels at the box office, Deadpool 3 acts as a messiah (no, this is not a reference to the trailer) for the MCU, which is quite funny when we know that the blockbuster with Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman will be the studios’ first R-rated. It is in any case the only Marvel film to be released in theaters this year.

And justly, Deadpool & Wolverine is already breaking records in the United States even before its arrival in theaters, proof that it was a very good move for the MCU.

Yes, he really is the little Marvel Jesus

Deadpool 3 already amasses millions

Eight weeks before its American (and worldwide, for that matter) release, Deadpool 3 has already raised more than $8 million in pre-sale of tickets for its first day of operation. And it’s a pretty remarkable performance, even more so for an R-rated film.

At present, the figures for the film directed Shawn Levy thus exceed those of The Batman ($6.5 million thanks to the pre-sale), Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 ($6 million) and John Wick: Chapter 4 ($1.4 million), which was also rated R.

Adam Aron, the boss of AMC Entertainment, one of the largest movie theater chains in the United States, reacted on X to the news, which obviously made him very happy:

“Approximately 200,000 moviegoers have already purchased their AMC tickets. That’s more first-day ticket sales than any other R-rated film at AMC.”

deadpool 3, savior of the current MCU?

If it follows the trajectory of The Batman And Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Deadpool 3 could reach the 700-800 million at the box office global. This would be more than logical given the scores of Dead Pool (782 million) and Deadpool 2 (785 million).

The first Dead Pool had cost barely 60 million, and its sequel in the 110 million. It’s hard to imagine that the budget for Deadpool & Wolverine isn’t at least as high, especially since it has had to bring back Hugh Jackmanwho embodied the X-Men in nine films (in a group, solo, or in a cameo depending on the occasion).

In 2023, alone Guardians of the Galaxy 3 was a success that lived up to expectations at the box office, between the very disappointing score ofAnt-Man 3 and the catastrophic one of The Marvels. Between that and the cast and writer strikes that caused delays, Marvel pushed back Captain America 4 And Thunderbolts to 2025, also with Fantastic Four And Blade (hopefully, since the development of this project is more than complicated).

It remains to be seen to what extent Deadpool & Wolverine will be a success, and what will its impact on the rest of the MCU since the character officially joins the Avengers universe. The film is scheduled for July 25, 2024 in the United States and for July 24 here.
