“Terrifier 3” banned for those under 18 is a hit at the box office, but shocks many spectators

CINEMA – It’s the surprise (filled with hemoglobin) of the week. Terrifier 3a new part of the horror saga directed by Damian Leone, is off to an excellent start in French cinemas. The horror film and the bloody antics of Art the Clown even attracted more viewers than Kate Winslet and her portrait of photographer Lee Miller.

As reported The French Film, Terrifier 3 ranked 2nd on Wednesday October 9, the day of its theatrical release, with 45,012 tickets sold, only a few hundred less than the first, the animated film by Chris Sanders The Wild Robot. But this success can be explained by a phenomenon of curiosity. Indeed, the preview screenings of Terrifier 3 across the Channel have caused a lot of ink to flow. The film’s distributor Signature Entertainment reports that a total of ” 11 people left the room, and one spectator even vomited in the room ».

Belonging to the slasher genre, it is not yet included in the list of the scariest films according to science. It focuses much more on gore than on scare jumps. As reported by several media, the majority of spectators left the room during the introductory scene, described as particularly gory. A scene that the director had announced more than a year ago in an interview for the YouTube channel JoBlo: “ Note carefully what I tell you, I assure you that the first five minutes of the film will cause a lot, a lot of talking ».

Moreover, learning that spectators had left the room during the screening did not seem to bother the director. He explained to AV Club : « Usually, people leave the theater when a film sucks. When they come out during a screening of a Terrifieris that the makeup artists and those responsible for the special effects worked well. You have to believe that we did a very good job. »

This seems to be validated by spectators overall, explaining that they found the film shocking, but successful, as shown by the majority of messages posted on the social network X.

As France Culture explains, Terrifier 3 is the first film to be subject to “prohibited for under 18s” censorship since 2006 and the release of another slasher from a “cult” saga Saw III. It thus joins a rather restricted list of films in which appear Cannibal Holocaust by Rugero Deodato, or encore Mad Max by George Miller upon its release.

Released on October 9 in cinemas, Terrifier 3 is therefore the direct continuation of Terrifier 2. In this new section “ Christmas “, we find Sienna (Lauren La Verra) and her brother. After miraculously surviving the Halloween massacre perpetrated by the sadistic Art the Clown (David Howard Thornton), they think they can move forward. But as the Christmas holidays approach, the psychopathic killer in the white mask makes his return.
