Paramount+ today puts online the first season of Interview with the Vampire, the series derived from the novel by Anne Rice, already adapted for cinema in the 90s.
What is it about ?
A young journalist, Malloy, talks in a room with an elegant man, with an aristocratic appearance and a pale face, Louis, who makes very strange confidences to him. Malloy, captivated by the seduction of his interlocutor, asks him, at dawn, to take him into his world, that of vampires.
A timeless love story
In 2021, the literary world mourned the death of Anne Rice, an American author who left her mark on the 5th art, particularly in the fantasy genre. The one to whom we owe the “cycle of vampires” has long protected her property. In the early 1990s, she authorized an adaptation of her most famous novel, Interview with the Vampire, the first part of a franchise which would sell hundreds of millions of copies.
After having criticized and then accepted this film version carried by Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise, Anne Rice joined forces with her son to work on a series, which would feature her two paper characters – Louis du Pointe du Lac and Lestat – and that she wishes to be as faithful as possible to her writings.
Interview with the Vampire, on which Rice was an executive producer, would finally air a few months after her death on AMC. Actors Jacob Anderson (Game of Thrones) and Sam Reid (Terminator 5) were chosen to replace Cruise and Pitt respectively.
She will therefore not witness the critical reception received by this new adaptation of her book. With an excellent rating of 98% on Rotten Tomatoes (an American review aggregator), Interview with the Vampire has won over all the US press. The journalists were captivated by the alchemy between its two headliners, the sets, the music and the quality of writing. Still according to them, this new iteration is more than faithful to the writings of Anne Rice, by highlighting the passionate relationship between these two immortal lovers.
As gothic and horrific as the novel, this new series also stars Bailey Bass in the role of Claudia, Assad Zaman in the role of Rashid / Armand and Daniel Molloy in that of Eric Bogosian.
AMC did not wait before renewing Interview with the Vampire for a season 2, which was received just as positively by the press. But this is the first burst of episodes that the French are invited to discover today on Paramount+.
