This week, Artus’ comedy explodes the counters upon its release and promises to be one of the successes of the year. Far behind, “The Fall Guy” is missing out, while “Back to Black” and “Frères” are doing well.

En Bern for weeks, attendance at cinemas is finally regaining real color with more than 3.1 million tickets sold since Wednesday 1er May, a level higher than those of 2022 and 2023 at the same time. An improvement mainly due to the surprise triumphant start ofA little something extra, which entertained and touched 930,000 spectators in five days in only 455 cinemas. Artus’ comedy with people with disabilities thus achieves the second best launch of 2024, behind Dune: part two, but also achieves the best start for a French film since Asterix and Obelix: The Middle Kingdom. Between word of mouth and an increased mix of rooms in the second week, A little something extra should have a splendid career and become the biggest French success since the pandemic.

Despite an extremely glamorous cast – Emily Blunt and Ryan Gosling –, The Fall Guy misses his stunt and bows humbly: David Leitch’s blockbuster only gathered 273,000 fans in 606 theaters, less than the recent Bullet Train (366,000 admissions in 2022) from the same director. If the biopic Back to Black falls to third place, its retention is no less excellent with 260,000 new admirers of Amy Winehouse won over. Good hold also for Brothers, with Yvan Attal and Mathieu Kassovitz, who is fifth with 150,000 tickets sold.

Among the new features, The stolen painting by Pascal Bonitzer marks the third start of the week with 109,000 moviegoers for 248 screens. Success also for The Cards of Evil, which terrified 106,000 fans on 199 screens, the best start for a horror film in 2024. With its western Till the end of the world (65,000 admissions in 257 theaters), Viggo Mortensen surpasses his previous film, Falling (40,000 entries). This is also the case for Nessim Chikhaoui and his social film Little Hands (51,000 admissions in 313 theaters), which exceeds Placed (40,000 entries). On the other hand, Antoine Raimbault with A matter of principle (45,000 admissions in 206 theaters) mobilizes significantly less than with An intimate conviction (102,000 admissions) in 2019. Finally, a good performance for the Spanish thriller Borderline, which brought together 38,000 curious people on 125 screens.
