Few people know it, but the last part of Guardians of the Galaxy holds an astonishing record. Only 8,000 latex foam prosthetics were used for the cult Christmas film, a far cry from the Marvel production figure. American media Variety clarified that the makeup and hair team had used “more than 22,500 prostheses, 130 hairpieces, 117 pairs of contact lenses and 500 wigs” to create the galactic creatures of the blockbuster.

Despite the enormous success of the feature film, which grossed more than $800 million at the worldwide box office, James Gunn confirmed on a Deadline podcast that it was “the last time people will see this Guardians team.” As a reminder, the American filmmaker slammed the door on Marvel Studios for his competitor: DC Studios. In October 2022, it was announced that he would be in charge of art direction for DC’s upcoming superhero films with producer Peter Safran, his longtime friend and collaborator.
