After Barbarian, a new crazy and unpredictable horror film: trailer for the strange Companion

Sophie Thatcher and Jack Quaid are at the heart of the enigmatic trailer for the horror thriller with rose water Companion.

These are two rising stars of genre cinema: Sophie Thatcher, revealed by Yellowjackets and lead actress of Bogeymanexpected in the casting of Hereticand Jack Quaid, revealed in The Boys and key figure in Scream 5 (and in a certain way Scream 6). Today, they are reunited for worse and for worse in the trailer for Companion.

This thriller about which we know almost nothing is the first feature film directed by Drew Hancock. playing on a half-horrific, half-romantic toneits first images make you particularly curious.

Companion in the figure

Embellished with the New Line Cinema logo redesigned in pink, the trailer opens with images of a man who appears to be preparing a romantic dinner for two lovers. In writing full of elegance and arabesques, it is announced that Companion is produced by the same studio (New Line) which produced Never forgeta dripping love film par excellence.

The color is given: Companion would this be a new rosy story? Except that the cook’s t-shirt is stained with blood and the young woman (Sophie Thatcher) at the table is handcuffed to her chair. In front of her, Jack Quaid flashes his best psycho smile.

Sophie Thatcher already had it in Le Croque-Mitaine

The trailer then changes atmosphere to announce that the film is also provided by “the creators” of Barbarousa horror and kidnapping film which caused a sensation in 2022. “The creators” are mainly Zach Cregger, screenwriter and director of Barbarouswhich produces Companion. From there, the disturbing and absurd images follow one another without contextgiving the impression of an electric and violent film whose story is totally unpredictable.

One image in particular is intriguing: that of Sophie Thatcher holding out her hand over a candle and letting his arm catch fire without flinching. What if the young woman also had things to hide? Is she even made of flesh and bones? The ins and outs of the story are not revealed by the trailer, but it seems that a lot of surprises will spice up this thriller.

Never Trust Jack Quaid

On the casting side, alongside Thatcher and Quaid, we also note the presence of Lukas Gage, seen in You et Euphoriaand Harvey Guillén, better known as Guillermo in the series What we do in the Shadows.

If a sign promises that this thriller will be “a new kind of love story”we hope that the film will be as crazy and unpredictable as its trailer, and will not fall into the cliché of romanticizing sequestration. Response in theaters at the beginning of 2025, since the film is announced in for January 8.
