Laurent Emmanuelli, alleged figure of Corsican organized crime, kept in pre-trial detention at the Borgo remand center

Laurent Emmanuelli will remain incarcerated at the Borgo remand center. This is the decision taken this Thursday, January 23 by the judge of freedoms and detention (JLD). Information confirmed by the Bastia public prosecutor, Jean-Philippe Navarre: “Iwas placed in pre-trial detention by the judge of freedoms and detention, who therefore revoked the judicial control measure as part of a procedure followed by the heads of criminal association and extortion“

Contacted by us, Me Alexis Ori, counsel for Laurent Emmanuelli, did not wish to comment.

Arrested during a traffic stop

Considered by the investigative services as a figure of Corsican organized crime, this 34-year-old man was arrested on Saturday January 18 on territorial road 20 near Omessa, in Central Corsica, during a road check carried out by the Moltifao motorized brigade. However, he was the subject of judicial control which prohibited him in particular from going to Corsica.

Consequently, he was presented to the Bastia public prosecutor's office, before being placed in pre-trial detention at the Borgo remand center, pending the examination of his file by the JLD.

Known to the justice services, Laurent Emmanuelli was the subject of an assassination attempt on the night of May 12 to 13, 2019 in Pietralba (Upper Corsica). At the same time, Antoine Francisci, a young man considered one of his close friends, was also targeted and killed while traveling in a buggy. The investigators, in support of various elements, affirm that Laurent Emmanuelli was present at the time of the events, at the wheel of another vehicle.

The case is being investigated by the specialized interregional jurisdiction (Jirs) of Marseille, in charge of cases relating to organized crime. Five men are referred to the Bouches-du-Rhône Assize Court for murder and attempted murder or for related offenses.

Although considered a victim in this case, Laurent Emmanuelli is nevertheless cited before the Marseille criminal court for non-reporting of a crime and alteration of a crime scene. Like the other accused referred to the court, he disputes the facts with which he is accused.
