MotoGP: Technical green light from Marc Marquez for the years to come…

On Tuesday, November 19, during the first MotoGP technical test of the 2025 season at the Barcelona-Catalunya circuit, Marc Marquez appeared all in red to symbolize his move to the official Ducati Lenovo Team for the next two years.

At the end of 49 laps spent comparing the Desmosedici GP24 and GP25 to his GP23 on which he spent the 2024 season, the Catalan was able to get a first idea of the progress made each year by the men from Borgo Panigale. And even if his
best time in 1'39.454 remains slower than the 1'38.798 he had obtained in Q2 the previous Saturday with the GP23, Marc Marquez remains positive, as he explained in his video interview carried out during an Estrella Galicia event.

“The first test with the official team at the Catalan circuit was a first contact, which means meeting the people, trying to adapt to the team, but it was a very important test because in one day , you define the guidelines for the development of the motorcycle. What is good about the new bike, and what is important for the technicians, is that Pecco and I established the same guidelines, we had the same sensations, the same strong points on the 25 and consequently the same points weak compared to the 2024, which we also tested and where, it is true, that compared to the 2023 there is a little progress. We will have to know how it goes on different circuits, but we are also focused on the 2025 with which we will try, as Ducati Team, to go a little further. »

Speaking of the future, still on a technical level, what does the Spanish champion think of the 850cc rule which will come into effect in 2027? Is he in favor of reducing aerodynamic downforce and banning center of gravity height adjustment devices? For what ? He responds…

“In my opinion, this pre-season is above all very important for the teams, because in particular the engines will be the same in 2025 and 2026. So if you make a mistake by choosing the wrong engine for 2025, you will have the same thing for 26so it's very important. Then will come the change in regulations in 2027, with less aerodynamics and a slightly smaller cylinder capacity. I think that in the end, the bikes will run with the same performance, because I don't know how the factories do it, but they run them with the same performance. But reducing aerodynamic downforce, I see it as a good thingespecially because it will lead to more overtaking. Will it make a difference? I think that the more the driver can overtake, the more he can make a little difference. And then also, because the rear and front devices, all the aerodynamic devices which are called lowerers in Italian, that will also change things. I think that the fewer technical factors there are on a motorcycle, the more the rider can make a differenceand the more technical factors there are, the more you depend on mechanics. »

We will read these remarks to those already reported made during the same event concerning his level of competitiveness and his passage into the official team: “The questions I asked myself for this year were answered, and in a positive way. I'm competitive, that was the main question mark, and this year I will be with the best bike on the grid, the best weapons to fight for another title. Let's see what I can do. This year I didn't win the title, but on a personal level I won a lot more. Now I wonder how I ever thought to stop, but in my situation it made sense. Next year I will try to be happy, because if you are happy, you are fast”.

“On the test day, the first in a new team, the main goal was to get to know the people. I spent 90% of the time on the GP25, Pecco and I found the same benefits and the same problems »he revealed about the Barcelona test. “From GP23 to 24 there was a step, from 24 to 25 it's different, it's difficult to notice the step at first, but it's there. I feel ready to give precise feedback to the factory, it's fortunate that it coincides with that of my teammate. »

“My challenge is to have a complete pre-season, where I can prepare physically, and logically I would like to fight for the title. This is why I'm with the best bike and the best team. I have all the tools to fight for the titlenow it will be in my hands. Gigi is for me the best leader. There are many engineers, some better and some worse. But you have to be a leader..
»

Optimism is therefore in order for number 93 who will be able to spend a good vacation perfecting his physical condition to begin to seriously consider his 9th world title.
