“The engine is more powerful but it still needs tuning”

Alex Rins was satisfied with the elements tested in Barcelona, where Yamaha had brought some interesting elements. The Spaniard liked the chassis, as did the new engine, even if it still needs to be accompanied by the correct electronic settings.

A good test with a powerful engine but to be adjusted: “In terms of settings, we took a small step forward, since we didn't do it during the race weekend. Among all the elements tested, I really liked the new chassis, which is not the last. I could enter corners faster, hold the throttle mid-corner. So it was a pretty positive test. »

“We tested an engine that still needs to be tuned. It has a lot more power but we are not electronically ready to take advantage of all that power. This is a version that we haven't tried until now, but I think it won't be the last. »

“We are a little closer. I'll say it in the first race if I'm optimistic or not, but I'm happy with the work we've done. We took that little step forward that we didn't take during the race weekend. »

A new engine in preparation: “I don't know if they are going to do a test before the end of the year with this engine or if they will bring it to Sepang. From what I've heard, I think the project is quite advanced. »

The performance of Fabio Quartararo 2nd in the test: “In the end, Fabio was fast all weekend. Track grip was much better in the test. We made the same comment about the chassis, he really liked it too. And he went fast. Let's see how we race next year. »

Remain cautious despite progress: “You have to keep your feet on the Earth because everything can happen very quickly. When I tested the engine that they brought to Sepang and that we had tested at Misano, I thought it would go perfectly. And in Sepang, it was not at all what we had experienced in Misano. »
