On Saturday morning, the sun shone on the Montmeló track, marking the occasion of the final Q1 of the MotoGP season, before the final qualifying session. Franco Morbidelli made a strong impression by setting the first reference time, followed closely by Jack Miller et Alex Rins. The Pramac rider, accompanied by Michele Pirro, was one of the rare Ducatis who failed to qualify in the Top10 on Friday.
However, Morbidelli continually improved his times throughout the laps. Alex Rins then took second position, ousting Miller who had to settle for third place. Quarterlyin a great attack, managed to take second position, less than four tenths behind Morbidelli. Soon after, Raul Fernandez marked the end of the session by improving his time, but the tension remained high until the end.
Jack Miller suffered a spectacular fall in turn 5 at the last minute, before Quarterlywho still had a chance to complete an additional lap, widened his trajectory in the first corner. Joan Mirwho made good progress, found himself in third place, just a few thousandths from his first qualification in Q2 this season.
The second qualifying session, decisive for pole and the fight for the title, followed. Marc Marquezin pursuit of Bagnaialaunched himself with determination while qu'Álex Márquez suffered his first fall of the session. Pecco Bagnaia quickly set the best time on his first fast lap, with Marc Marquez et Jorge Martin behind him.
Aleix Espargaróalways in solidarity with his friend Jorge Martinworked to help him achieve the best time, stepping aside so as not to get in the way. The final attack came as the session-ending drivers embarked on their final timed lap. Bagnaia improved his time again, threatening to be overtaken by Martín et Espargaro. But it is ultimately Bagnaia who retained the pole, with Espargaro in second position and Marquez in third. Jorge Martindespite a last effort, had to settle for fourth place.
It is therefore Pecco Bagnaia who took pole in this last race of the season, with Espargaró and Márquez completing the front row, and the suspense for the title which will remain until the end of the weekend. Fabio Quartararo will start tenth and Johann Zarco twelfth.
