MotoGP, some are already warning David Alonso: “Moto2 is very complicated, we have seen riders get lost in it”

David Alonso, recently crowned Moto3 world champion, is already preparing for his next challenge: moving to Moto2 with the CFMOTO Aspar team in 2025. This talented young rider has already made waves in the Grand Prix peloton, but according to former sporting director of LCR Honda, Oscar Haro, the transition to the Moto2 category represents a complex step which will require patience and adaptation.

Haro, who shared his thoughts on Nico Abad’s podcast, highlighted the unique nature of Moto2: “ Moto2 is very complicated; we saw drivers like Sandro Cortese and Julian Simon get lost. This is a category with a lot of mechanical parity. Driving skill is crucial as there is very little electronic assistance…and the engine power is quite difficult to control, so
it must be approached with caution and learning
. »

In Moto2the trajectory is different from that followed by young drivers through the junior categories. Alonsolike other talented riders, has risen through the ranks in a structured way, with experiences in Pre-Moto3 and competitions such as the Talent Cup and the Red Bull Rookies Cup. However, according to Haro, this Moto3 training does not fully prepare for the demanding world of racing. Moto2.

« David Alonso is an 18-year-old who is used to winning, but he will need to be patient and focus on learning »

« Moto2 is a whole different world,” continues Haro on motorcyclesports. “ The braking points, the way to lift the motorcycle quickly, to accelerate, to know how to manage sliding, everything changes. It’s a bike that’s much closer to MotoGP than Moto3. If we rush, we risk getting lost along the way. »

Pour Alonsowho demonstrated remarkable talent in
Moto3the biggest challenge will therefore be to adapt to this new environment, without getting carried away by impatience. Haro sums it up like this: “ He’s an 18-year-old who’s used to winning, but he’s going to have to be patient and focus on learning. »

Alonso has before it a crucial stage for its development. He is ready to face this new challenge, and the world of Moto2 is waiting for him to see if he will manage to complete this stage with the same brilliance that took him to the top of the Moto3.
