After the presentation of the Ducati Lenovo 2025 team in Italy, a question arises: do Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo Team) and Marc Márquez (Ducati Lenovo Team) constitute the best MotoGP™ line-up of all time?
Some will say yes, with supporting arguments. Indeed, the Italian and the Spaniard have 11 World Champion titles between them, including eight (six for Marc Márquez, two for Pecco Bagnaia) in the premier category. Others will think otherwise, which is why we've gone back in time to find some amazing MotoGP™ teams in the modern era.
Valentino Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo
At the end of their collaboration in the Yamaha factory team, the two men had a total of 14 world crowns, including 10 in the premier category. In the modern era of MotoGP™, in terms of titles and statistics, Valentino Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo have formed the best team.
Marc Márquez and Jorge Lorenzo
Although this line-up did not last long due to the retirement of Jorge Lorenzo at the end of 2019, on paper, with a total of nine MotoGP™ titles, the combination of #93 and #99 also makes part of the most impressive.
Casey Stoner et Dani Pedrosa
In terms of numbers, the Stoner/Pedrosa duo at Honda is no match for the drivers mentioned above. The Australian's two MotoGP™ titles, added to the three of the “little samurai” in the lower categories, are not at the level of Valentino Rossi, Jorge Lorenzo and Marc Márquez. However, it's not all about the statistics. Casey Stoner and Dani Pedrosa are two of the best riders we've seen in MotoGP™, with the Australian in particular considered one of the most naturally talented in history.
-Marc Márquez and Dani Pedrosa
From 2013 to 2018, Marc Márquez and Dani Pedrosa led the Honda factory project. Marc Márquez may have been the winner of the Championships, but his compatriot, who finished in the top four of the MotoGP™ Championship 10 times, took nine of his 31 victories in the elite during this period.
So, these five line-ups, including Bagnaia/M.Márquez, constitute what we consider to be the best teams seen in MotoGP™. Do you agree, or do you think another duo belongs on this list?
What is certain is that the 2025 battle between the two Ducati spearheads is part of the crème de la crème of line-ups. What do the two multiple World Champions have in store for us this season?
