The return of the French to the top of MotoGP
The 2024 MotoGP season was the first without a single French podium in eight years. Since their arrival in the premier category, Johann Zarco and Fabio Quartararo had at least offered France a top-3 finish each season. Yamaha and Honda being in great difficulty, they were unable to continue their series the previous year. But things seem to be going in the right direction, and the progress on track is visible. It remains to be seen whether this will be enough to avoid a second year of scarcity for French fans.
The success of the French GP
The MotoGP French Grand Prix, contested at Le Mans, has become accustomed to being crowned with the status of the most popular event on the calendar. In 2023, as in 2024, the event attracted more than 250,000 spectators on site throughout the three days of celebrations. Two editions which allowed it to beat the MotoGP attendance record as many times. Last year, 297,471 spectators pushed through the doors of the Bugatti circuit to attend the festivities. A figure which is approaching the historic milestone of 300,000.
A new king of the Sprint?
Since the introduction of the new race weekend format at the start of the 2023 season, Jorge Martín has distinguished himself greatly in Sprint events. In 2024, for the second year in a row, he is the driver who has won the most on Saturday, with 7 achievements, tied with Pecco Bagnaia. However, there will be a lot of changes this season. Jorge Martín will take on a new challenge at Aprilia, while Marc Marquez will join Bagnaia in the official Ducati team. Without forgetting the promotion of Pedro Acosta to the official KTM team. If it appears difficult for Jorge Martín to maintain his status as Sprint king aboard the RS-GP, who will succeed him?
The best KTM rider in MotoGP
KTM cleaned house last year, replacing two of its four riders. During the upcoming campaign, Pedro Acosta will play alongside Brad Binder, in the manufacturer's official team. Enea Bastianini and Maverick Vinales will both drive for the Tech3 team, having each scored at least one victory with their factories in 2024. There is no doubt that the team will have one of the strongest quartet on the grid , but which of its representatives will stand out the most?
(Bonus) Barry Baltus to end the Belgian food shortage?
The Belgian rider, Barry Baltus, is currently the only French-speaking rider in the Moto2 world championship. In 2025, the No. 7 will join the ranks of Fantic Racing, alongside Aron Canet, vice champion last year. A challenge that he will approach with full of hope. This season will also mark ten years since the last Belgian victory in the world championship, which dates back to the 2015 German Grand Prix. It remains to be seen whether Barry Baltus will be able to put an end to this long wait.
