After a first temperature check for free practice 1 this morning, the serious things began. As usual, the MotoGP riders benefited from one hour of riding, in order to achieve the best possible time, to be directly qualified for tomorrow's Q2. This afternoon, the pace picked up on the Catalunya track. From the first ten minutes, Marco Bezzecchi beat Takaaki Nakagami's best time, in 1:39:829, almost a second faster than the Japanese. In the gravel trap during FP1, Augusto Fernandez made a mistake again at the entrance to turn 5. The Spaniard had crashed in the same place earlier in the day, with his teammate Pedro Acosta. As a reminder, he is experiencing his last Grand Prix as a starter.

The whole session was rather calm, but the last quarter of an hour was eventful with the improvements in the times. Most of the bikes went to the track for a final stint before finishing this first day. At the end of this session, it was Pecco Bagnaia who set the best time in 1:38:918, ahead of Marco Bezzecchi and Aleix Espargaro. His championship rival, Jorge Martin, finished in fifth place. For our tricolors, Johann Zarco gave a magnificent performance, the LCR driver finished fourth. He was even leader of this session a few minutes from the end. For his compatriot, Fabio Quartararo, the Niçois crossed the finish line in fourteenth place, far from the top ten.
