“The Maniac” recently returned to MotoGP under the colors of the VR46 Racing team during the last Malaysian GP and considered by many to be a real talent, the truth is that Andrea Iannone was never a fully “accepted” rider ”, given its complicated nature. Michael Laverty believes the Italian was “one of the fastest” when he was at his best, and has lamented how his career was “ruined”.
The former Northern Irish rider spoke about the #29, currently in the World Superbike Championship, to TNT Sports and spoke about the rebellious Italian rider, highlighting his speed: “He was always talented. Without a doubt one of the fastest in MotoGP at his peak.”
For Laverty, it was positive to see the 35-year-old return, and he also regretted that his career was ruined after the episode that led to his penalty, with Iannone being found guilty of using performance-enhancing substances, leading to a four-year break in his career:
– It’s good to see him back – I know some people disagree because he didn’t repent, he didn’t admit his guilt. I feel a little sorry for him, as far as his career goes, that it was ruined.
Iannone has always denied intentionally consuming performance-enhancing substances, saying he had eaten contaminated meat.
