Before the Malaysian Grand Prix, Bagnaia is 17 points behind Jorge Martín. The two Ducati riders are the only ones who can still win a world crown that Bagnaia has worn for the last two years, after narrowly losing it in 2021 to Fabio Quartararo. For her part, Enea Bastianini is in fourth place in the championship, eleven points behind Marc Márquez. The driver at No. 23 therefore wants to think first about his season, and trying to secure the podium in the general classification, before hearing about team instructions, which the Italian does not consider correct.
“I think it’s not okay, but it’s also not okay to be too aggressive with everyone.”he explains to the official MotoGP website. “When a driver is fighting for the title, it's a little more difficult to manage for everyone. I have to think about myself and try to finish third in the championship. We haven't discussed team instructions, they know very well that I'm leaving the team at the end of this season, so it's not important to do it, I have to think about myself. »
Bastianini is therefore extremely clear, there is no question of him helping a driver who will above all become a rival next year. The one who finishes his second season in the official Ducati team will in fact leave the Italian manufacturer to join KTM next year, via Hervé Poncharal's Tech3 structure. So no desire for him to leave after a good deed, knowing that he has been put in a difficult position by recruitment within Marc Márquez's official team for next year.
“Useless” instructions for Marc Márquez
Number 93 was also questioned regarding possible instructions that could arrive from the bosses of Ducati Corse. Logically less categorical than the driver he will replace in 2025, Márquez above all highlighted his personal performances, and his desire to finish as best as possible an already excellent season crowned with three Grand Prix victories.
“We did not receive any instructions because there are two Ducati riders who are fighting. So I have to give my best every time. In Thailand, I was behind Pecco and I couldn't overtake him. I tried to race and then I crashed while trying to attack. We'll see, when you're intelligent you know what to do, instructions are useless. As we saw in Australia and Thailand, if I can play for victory I will do my best. That said, we are fighting against two title contenders, it is one thing to overtake in the dry, where everything is under control, and it is another thing to overtake on a wet track. »
