Fabio Quartararo did not have a memorable Saturday at Phillip Island, although he did better in the sprint (11th with several falls) than in qualifying (19th). The Yamaha rider encounters the usual problems that prevent him from expressing his potential.

The qualification: “We really struggled in the mixed conditions. We lack confidence with the bike and we know that when there are wet spots, we are in difficulty. »

The race: “We had the same problems that we have had for several years: we have no grip, we lack the power to overtake. We no longer have the strong points from before, agility, grip… We may have the same grip as before, but the others have gained a lot, and in speed too. Previously, other people’s motorcycles didn’t rev as much. »

The impossibility of overtaking: “All the bikes have progressed and we are having trouble finding the solution. When you come out of a corner, you lose out on the others. We are never stuck, we are always 4-5 meters behind, which prevents us from overtaking. »

The possibility of doing better by qualifying a few places further forward: “A little, because for me I was faster than Marini, but I couldn’t overtake him. But I couldn’t hope for an extraordinary result either with the pace we had. »
