Marquez names favorite in title race between Bagnaia and Martín

Before entering the home stretch of the MotoGP championship, Marc Márquez believes that Jorge Martín is the favorite against Francesco Bagnaia for the world crown. Ten points separate the two drivers, with 148 still in play across four Grands Prix. Although he sees Martín as having a slight advantage, Márquez believes it will be difficult for both contenders to finish the season without making any mistakes, as reported by Motorsport. “I still have the same opinion because Martín started 11th [au Japon]”, Marquez said. “I know what it’s like to start behind, several times, and it makes your life difficult. He handled it very well, he did very well in the first laps. […] When you start from the back, in contemporary MotoGP, the odds are against you”, says Marquez.

Mark as an observer of this fight for the title

Bagnaia and Martín are on a very close level but they have both lost big points with crashes this season. The Italian himself described a “championship of errors” and Ducati even sees a “paradox” in the fact that he won eight races, half of the events contested, without leading the championship. In Motegi, the two strong men of MotoGP were a cut above their opponents, with performances so impressive that Márquez considers further mistakes inevitable on one side or the other: “When you play the championship, you are at your best level. That’s what they are doing now.” “They’re turning up the intensity of the category a notch and I think if we continue at this pace, one of us will fall again. I probably will at some point! […] If we talk about the title, at this pace it will be difficult to do all the races without mistakes”, admits Marc Marquez. At the same time, Enea Bastianini, Bagnaia’s teammate at Ducati, is banking on his compatriot for the title, but, for Márquez, nationality also plays its role in the predictions: “Italians lean towards Italians and Spaniards lean towards Spaniards!” jokes Marc Marquez. See you next weekend for the first round of the final sprint at the Australian GP.
