MotoGP Indonesia J2, Marc Marquez (Ducati Q12/S3): “Bastianini knew I was bad at this place! »

Another great comeback for Marc Marquez during the Sprint in Indonesia. Accustomed to this kind of feat since the start of the year, the eight-time world champion was able to forget yet another failed Q2 to return to third position. This third fall in as many qualifying sessions forced Marc to the feat, and will force him even more tomorrow when he will have to keep rubber in reserve for a race which promises to be extremely long. Marquez is happy, of course, but aware of the difficulty of the challenge that awaits him.

It was a proud but circumspect Marc Marquez who introduced himself to the journalists at the end of the Sprint. « I had a good start, but nothing incredible. I still think about that mistake in qualifying. We did the job during the Sprint, but I have to work for the qualifications » he said to Sky Sports microphones. Surprisingly, the qualifiers have not been successful for him this season, even though he is undoubtedly the best of all time in the exercise.

The appearance of his race was quite incredible, because after an excellent start, we thought we would see him come back to the level of Pecco Bagnaia. But in the last laps, Enea Bastianini raised his voice and the Spaniard could do nothing. « Bastianini’s overtake was magnificent, because he knew I was bad in turn 2. He knew it! That’s why he attacked here. Otherwise, I think turn 10 is the easiest to overtake, but it’s also easy to make a mistake » he added.

One might think that Marquez expects more from the upcoming Sunday race, but he is more pessimistic about the long distance. « The goal is to be in the top 5, or even the top 7. The race will be very long. I still have this problem with the rear tire pushing the front, this is also what caused my mistake in qualifying. It’s like the fall is coming from behind me » he concluded.
