Top leader of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) Kim Jong Un convened a consultative meeting on national defense and security on Monday, the latest measure taken by the country to address escalating tensions in the Korean Peninsula, the KCNA news agency reported Tuesday.

SEOUL, Oct. 15 (Xinhua) — Top leader of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) Kim Jong Un on Monday convened a consultative meeting on national defense and security, the latest step taken by the country to face escalating tensions on the Korean Peninsula, the KCNA news agency reported Tuesday.

Kim Jong Un, general secretary of the Workers’ Party of Korea (WPK) and chairman of State Affairs of the DPRK, was briefed on the general analysis of “cases of serious provocation by the enemy that violated the sovereignty of the the DPRK”, as well as the country’s military counterattack plan, weapons modernization measures, the state of production of weapons and equipment and intelligence operations, KCNA said.

During the meeting, the Head of State defined the direction of military action in the current circumstances and specified the tasks in the deterrence operation and in the exercise of the right to self-defense to safeguard the sovereignty, security and national interests, the agency continued.

Kim expressed the firm political and military stance of the ruling party and the DPRK government during the meeting, KCNA concluded.
