The Ivorian music scene is in mourning. Valéry Vitale, member of the Espoir 2000 group, died on October 12, 2024, in Paris, following blood cancer.
Valéry Vitale, alongside Pat Sacko and Shura, marked the history of zouglou. The group knew how to combine catchy rhythms and lyrics that reflect social realities.
His fight against the disease had not been officially made public. This death comes at a time when the group was preparing to make its comeback, at the request of fans.
“It is with deep sadness that I learn of the death of Valéry Espoir 2000, who formed, alongside Pat Sacko, the essential zouglou duo. This evening, I am not only mourning a colleague, but a brother with who I shared my first moments of wôyô, with whom we took the same path, and a friend with whom we together marked the history of our generation in zouglou, by writing some of its most beautiful pages. the land of our ancestors be light to him for eternity, rest in peace my brother,” Asalfo of the Magic System group said on his Facebook page.
