White plan launched at the CHUM, pharmacies interrupt emergency services

Given the traffic difficulties for patients and caregivers alike, the University Hospital has activated its white plan. This decision notably involves the rescheduling of certain interventions:

Staff are invited to organize themselves to reach their workstation in accordance with the directives of their local management who have nominative travel certificates. Depending on the specificities of each activity, rescheduling of surgical procedures or consultations are organized. However, particular attention is paid to urgent or cancer-related interventions.

In its press release, the Martinique University Hospital “calls for everyone’s understanding to allow staff and partners of the Martinique University Hospital to be able to carry out their missions in the interest of all (travel of staff, ambulances, taxis, transport of blood samples, medicines, etc.)”.

No emergency service in pharmacies

In view of the growing insecurity, pharmacists are also taking precautionary measures. The FSPF, the majority union of pharmacists and the USPO, have drafted a joint press release to this effect.

As of this Thursday, pharmacies in Martinique exercise their right of withdrawal and indicate that they are no longer able to provide their emergency service.

As a reminder, a curfew is in place in Martinique from this Thursday evening at 9 p.m. until 5 a.m. tomorrow morning. The measure is in effect at least until next Monday.

Several childcare services at a standstill

The Regional Health Agency has also taken several measures regarding childcare services:

From this Thursday, October 10, in consultation with the orders and unions of health professionals, the following measures are being implemented to avoid any risk linked to urban violence:

  • Exceptional closure of medical homes;
  • Temporary suspension of pharmacies on call at night: this measure aims to avoid non-essential travel;
  • Closure of SOS Médecins from 6 p.m.;
  • Strengthening the medical regulation of the SAMU (Center 15): additional teams have been mobilized to guarantee a rapid and effective response to medical emergencies always after referral by the single number 15;
  • Triggering of the white plan at the Martinique University Hospital Center (CHUM): this plan makes it possible to reorganize care programming and manage patient flows optimally, prioritizing vital emergencies.
