Weather Alert: Episode of violent wind in Corsica

Situation

After the passage of the very active depression Kirk which evacuated towards Germany, much cooler air rushed over as far as the Mediterranean with the digging of a secondary depression over the Gulf of Genoa. The latter leads to a clear strengthening of the wind in the Mediterranean, more particularly in Corsica with an episode of violent wind expected between the afternoon and the first part of the night from Thursday to Friday.

Observation

At the start of the daythe episode of violent wind has not yet started but the wind is strengthening on Balagne and the southern end of the island with gusts of 73 km/h on Île Rousse (Haute-Corse), 86 km/h at Sponde (Haute-Corse), 81 km/h at Cap Pertusato (South Corsica).

Evolution

This afternoon, the wind strengthens significantly from 2 p.m. and blows in strong gusts at 90-100 km/h on the Balagne and between 100 and 120 km/h on the Corsican Cap. The wind is also strengthening on the Corsican mountains and the southern part of the island with gusts of 120-130 km/h on the crests and violent gusts between 100 and 110 km/h in the Solenzara and Porto-Vecchio sectors. .

This eveningthe peak wind will be reached with gusts of 130-140 km/h on Cape Corsica. The region could experience gusts of 90-100 km/h. In Balagne and in the areas of Ile Rousse, gusts will reach 100 to 120 km/h. The far south of the island will experience gusts of 100-110 km/h.

Tonight, the wind will still blow violently until midnight and then gradually die down. The special press release will be lifted at 2 a.m.
