The new Minister of the Interior of , Bruno Rotayo, announced today, Tuesday, the imposition of an “administrative ban” in French territory on the eldest son of former Al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden.

The French minister justified the decision by saying that Omar bin Laden had been settling in the French region of l’Orne since 2021 “as the husband of a British citizen,” and made comments in 2023 glorifying “terrorism.”

The Minister of Interior refers to July 6, 2023, when Omar bin Laden was convicted of promoting terrorism, after a tweet he published on May 2, the anniversary of the killing of the founder of Al-Qaeda. But after this indictment was submitted, he was released at the end of the proceedings.

Since then, Omar bin Laden has continued his activity as a “painter”, which he began during the quarantine period due to Covid-19 in 2021, and thanks to which he regularly exhibited paintings that were sold for between 800 and 2,000 euros.

In an interview with Le Point magazine in 2022, Omar bin Laden insisted that he chose to settle in France in 2016, saying: “Islam is the second religion here, and I believe that in France, as a Muslim, I can practice Islam without a problem.”

It is noteworthy that Omar bin Laden is one of 15 sons and daughters of the former Al-Qaeda leader, but he did not follow the path of his father like some of his brothers. He has been residing in Europe for years and also works in the field of documentary films.
