“Don’t tell me they have no chance there.”

Pierre van Hooijdonk traveled to Spain to analyze the Feyenoord match. The former footballer indicated after the home match against Bayer Leverkusen that Feyenoord currently has no business on the highest stage in Europe. Brian Priske’s team was not able to fully convince Van Hooijdonk against NAC Breda and NEC.

“I don’t have much confidence in it, but I must say: Feyenoord’s opponent did not achieve the best results either,” says Van Hooijdonk in conversation with Ziggo Sports. Nine points are needed to reach the intermediate round. “If you start calculating where Feyenoord has to get the points, it could well be here and it should probably happen here.”

Van Hooijdonk does not rule out that Feyenoord could score points on Wednesday evening, but that has nothing to do with what the former footballer saw against NAC Breda or NEC. “That’s actually based on what happened with Girona last summer. It’s a bit like what’s going on with Feyenoord now. They’re also a number of keyspelers lost. Also a difficult start in the competition.”

“I haven’t really seen a signal from Feyenoord that this is improving,” emphasizes the former striker who won the UEFA Cup with Feyenoord. “Of course there are periods when it is fine to watch. It has not yet produced the desired result and that causes some unrest and is at the expense of the team’s self-confidence.”

Kramer sees that Feyenoord also lacks self-confidence. The 35-year-old Rotterdammer does not see the cause so much in trainer Brian Priske. “I was watching the match against NEC and very simple balls are intercepted over ten meters. Are you going to say that this is because of the trainer? It is the players who do that. It is very easy to say: the trainer does this and the trainer does that. Of course a trainer is important, but the players have to be able to implement the plan that the trainer has. That just doesn’t work now. You even see Timber looking around: what are we doing now?”

Feyenoord plays against Girona FC on Wednesday evening. Kramer believes that the Rotterdam team has anything but a chance during the away match in the Champions League. “It won’t be an easy match, but I just want to see them create chances and play good football. When that is the case, they simply win that match. They also simply have quality to decide that match. You go “Don’t tell me that they have no chance there. I also believe that if they play better football, they have a better chance of winning that match, also against Girona.”

To achieve this, it is extremely important to regain confidence in the Feyenoord team. “The trust is gone, then you can want and demand all kinds of things from players. If the trust is not there, you see that things are difficult. Few opportunities are created, few boys are put in one-on-one , who are good at those kinds of duels. Then you hardly get the creative guys on the ball. Hadj Moussa comes in, who is not someone who everyone says is a good purchase passes and gives a cross,” the former Feyenoord striker concludes in conversation with RTV Rijnmond.
