Liverpool took advantage of Manchester City’s 1-1 stumble against its host Newcastle and snatched the lead with a valuable victory over its host Wolverhampton 2-1 today, Saturday, at the opening of the sixth stage of the English Football League.

Liverpool continued its awakening and achieved its second victory in a row after its sudden loss at home to Nottingham Forest, and its fifth this season, raising its score to 15 points, one point ahead of Manchester City.

Aston Villa has the opportunity to follow Liverpool to the top spot if it wins over Ipswich Town tomorrow.

French international defender Ibrahima Konate gave Liverpool the lead with a powerful header from close range following a cross pass to Portuguese international Diogo Jota (45+2).

Algerian international defender Rayan Ait Nouri succeeded in equalizing when he took advantage of a close-range shot by Portuguese Carlos Forbes (56).

Liverpool won a penalty kick after one minute after Gota was obstructed by Portuguese defender Nelson Semedo, so Egyptian striker Mohamed Salah opened up to it and shot it powerfully with his left hand to the left of goalkeeper Johnston (61).

City faltered

It seemed clear that Manchester City was affected by the absence of its star midfielder, Rodri, due to a knee injury that will keep him out of the field until the end of the season, so it fell into the trap of a draw against its host Newcastle (1-1).

Guardiola introduced young Rico Luis in Rodri’s place alongside Croatian Matteo Kovacic, but City lacked the control and balance that the Spanish international often provides on the ball, whether defensively or offensively.

City opened the scoring through Croatian centre-back Joshko Gvardiol after a beautiful shot in the corner and a good effort by Jack Grealish on the left side (35).

In the second half, Newcastle equalized through young Anthony Gordon, who won a penalty kick and converted it past Brazilian Ederson (58).

A tough win for Arsenal

Arsenal followed City with a difficult victory over its guest, Leicester City, 4-2.

It seemed that the London club was on its way to easily settling the outcome of the match in its favor after leading with two clean goals in the first half, scored by Brazilian internationals Gabriel Martinelli (20) and Belgian Leandro Trossard (45+1).

But Leicester City turned the tables in the second half with a brace from defender James Justin (47 and 63).

Arsenal put all its weight on the visitors’ goal, and Danish goalkeeper Mads Hermansen imposed himself by stopping more than one of the Gunners’ chances before surrendering in the fourth minute of stoppage time, and friendly fire when Bukayo Saka took a corner kick that Trossard followed from close range, hitting the foot of the Nigerian midfielder. Wilfred Ndinde and passed between the goalkeeper’s legs.

Arsenal increased their lead with a fourth goal, with a fatal mistake by defender Justin, who tried to clear a rebound from his goalkeeper following a powerful shot by Brazilian substitute Gabriel Jesus, who set it up for German Kai Haveters, who followed it into the empty goal (90+9).

Chelsea continues its awakening

Chelsea continued its awakening and rose to fourth place temporarily with its third successive victory, at the expense of its guest, Brighton, 4-2, scored by international Cole Palmer.

Palmer imposed himself as the star of the match by scoring a hat-trick for the London club in the 21st and 28th minutes from a penalty kick, 31st and 41st, and became the first player in the history of the English Premier League to score a hat-trick in the first half, according to Opta statistics.

It is the third win in a row for the London club and the fourth this season, raising its score to 13 points, while Brighton suffered its first loss this season and the first after 3 consecutive draws, so its score froze at 11 points and fell to eighth place.

Everton win

Everton turned the tables on its guest, Crystal Palace, when it turned a deficit with a goal by international defender Mark Guehi (10) into a victory with two goals by Dwight McNeil (47 and 54).

This is Everton’s first win this season, eliminating last place and rising to 15th place, while Crystal Palace fell to 17th place.

Fulham achieved a valuable victory over its host Nottingham Forest with a single goal scored by its Mexican striker Raul Jimenez (51 from a penalty kick).

Brentford tied with West Ham with a goal by Cameroonian Brian Mbuemo (1) versus a goal by Czech international giant Tomas Soucek (54).
