Iran threatens to take action after EU sanctions

Iran has threatened to take “measures” in response to new sanctions announced by Britain, Germany and France, which accuse Tehran of having delivered ballistic missiles to Russia to strike Ukraine.

Blinken expected in Ukraine

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken is expected in Ukraine on Wednesday, where he is scheduled to meet with senior officials, at a time he has described as crucial for supporting Kiev in its fight against the invasion launched by Russia in February 2022. Accompanied by his British counterpart David Lammy, the head of American diplomacy said he would use his visit to inquire directly with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and other officials about kyiv’s current military objectives and how Washington can help achieve them.

Russian assaults intensify

Intensified Russian assaults are being repelled by the Ukrainian army in the Kurakhove and Povrosk areas. For its part, Russia claims to have intercepted 144 Ukrainian drones during the night from Monday to Tuesday. “72 drones [ont été interceptés] over the Bryansk region, 20 over the Moscow region, 14 over the Kursk region, 13 over the Tula region, eight over the Belgorod region, seven over the Kaluga region, five over the Voronezh region, four over the Lipetsk region and one over the Oryol region”the Russian Defense Ministry said.

Operation “Ocean-2024”

More than 400 ships and 120 aircraft are involved in the Ocean 2024 exercise, which runs until September 16, in the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans, as well as in the Mediterranean, Caspian and Baltic Seas. The United States denounces this cooperation. Blinken and his British counterpart could announce authorization for Ukraine to use weapons that they supply on Russian soil, a request reiterated this Sunday by President Volodomyr Zelensky.
