Justice and Development Party demands that the government respond to the complaints of earthquake victims and cancel the penalties against medical students – Lakome2

The Justice and Development Party called on the government to speed up its response to the complaints filed by those affected by the Al Hoceima earthquake, stressing the need for a final solution to the open and ongoing crisis of medical and pharmacy students for more than nine months.

The General Secretariat of the Justice and Development Party, in a statement following its regular meeting yesterday, Sunday, called on the government to expedite the processing of complaints related to the provision of support and assistance and the “delay” recorded in implementing the general reconstruction and rehabilitation program for the areas affected by the Al Hoceima earthquake, pointing to the social and humanitarian repercussions of the government’s inability and confusion in processing complaints related to the provision of support and direct financial assistance to the affected families, and its delay in implementing the general reconstruction and rehabilitation program for the areas affected by the earthquake.

The party stressed that “this delay comes despite the availability of sufficient financial appropriations, a large and important part of which was collected within the framework of the solidarity campaign that established the high level of Moroccans’ interaction with patriotism and generosity, in response to the royal instructions to open a special solidarity account dedicated to managing the effects of the earthquake,” noting that “a large part of its important balance, unfortunately, is still stagnant.”

The “Lamp” party expressed its condemnation of the government’s resort to unacceptable methods in confronting the protests over its delay in fulfilling its promises regarding the implementation of the aid, reconstruction and rehabilitation program and the miserable situation experienced by the affected families, calling for respect for freedom of opinion, expression, assembly, peaceful assembly and demonstration as guaranteed by the constitution and law and for expediting them instead of promoting numbers and achievements that do not reflect the visible reality of the affected families.

Regarding the medical students’ crisis that has been ongoing for nine months, the Justice and Development Party called on the government to stop the series of procrastination and the promotion of fallacies with the aim of pressuring students and holding them solely responsible for the failure of various mediations, by officially canceling the disciplinary sanctions taken against a group of male and female students, in response to the sympathetic requests they submitted to university presidents, and agreeing with the pedagogical staff in the colleges and student representatives on a reasonable and realistic agenda for scheduling remedial exams, and reversing the implementation of the decision to reform the study years retroactively. At the same time, it called on male and female medical and pharmacy students to officially announce their acceptance of this solution, which would put an end to this dangerous and unprecedented crisis.

In another context, the Justice and Development Party expressed its surprise at the silence of the government, its president and the Minister of Justice regarding the crisis that the Kingdom’s courts have been experiencing for months, regarding the forms of protest that the justice sector unions are waging, calling for urgent and serious intervention to address the crisis of the ongoing strikes that have led to the disruption of the normal functioning of the courts, leading to delays in issuing judgments and the loss of the rights of litigants.

The party stressed that resolving the strike crisis requires opening a serious and responsible dialogue on the issues raised with the unions in the justice sector, calling on the government to avoid the method of procrastination and delay and trying to gain time, which it adopts every time, as usual, in dealing with protests and strikes.

The General Secretariat of the Justice and Development Party confirmed that the government’s policy towards forms of protest ultimately leads to the suspension of public services and facilities for long periods, as happened when studies were suspended for many months, and as is the case today in medical and pharmacy colleges and in the Kingdom’s courts.
