IPC recognises representatives for success of Paris 2024

The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) has recognised several representatives from the Paris 2024 Organising Committee, French Government, and City of Paris for the roles they have played in the successful delivery of the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.

At an event held in central Paris and attended by the IPC Governing Board and Senior Management Team, IPC President Andrew Parsons presented the Paralympic Games Appreciation Award to the following people:

  • Pierre Rabadan: Deputy Mayor of Paris, in charge of Sports, Olympic and Paralympic Games, and the Seine

  • Lamia El Aaraje: Deputy Mayor of Paris, in charge of Greater Paris, universal accessibility, and people with a disability

IPC President Andrew Parsons said: “Paris 2024 promised revolutionary Paralympic Games and Games that would be wide open to the world. They most certainly have delivered, putting on a spectacular sport event that is already having a tremendous impact on French society and the wider world.

“Although delivering the world’s third biggest sport event is a monumental team effort lasting many years, on behalf of the whole Paralympic Movement I would like to thank and recognise several individuals from the Paris 2024 Organising Committee, French Government and City of Paris for the outstanding roles they have played in the delivery of these Games.

“Feedback from athletes, members and partners has been fantastic. With just one day to go we commend everyone for the role they have played in putting on the most spectacular which puts persons with disabilities centre stage.

“We look forward to seeing the legacy of Paris 2024 continue over the coming years. President of the Il-de-France region, Valérie Pécresse’s commitment to make the Paris Metro transport system accessible for all, could be Paris’ greatest Paralympic legacy.”

In total, 21 individuals received awards for their role in the organisation of the Paris 2024 Games. With 2.4 million tickets sold, the Games are second only to the London 2012 Paralympic Games, which sold 2.7 million tickets.
