The Palace specifies that the sovereign is “somewhat ill”without specifying what King Philippe is suffering from. The King of the Belgians may be suffering from a slight cold, after his return to Brussels. King Philippe and Queen Mathilde spent part of their summer in their private residence on the island of Yeu. King Philippe was therefore due to make his first public engagement of the new school year.
Queen Mathilde, 51, is replacing her husband at short notice and will be going to the National Necropolis located at the Enclos des fusillés of the Citadel of Liège, a small cemetery where victims of the SS are buried. Queen Mathilde, for her part, has already made her first official outing of the new school year this week.
