2024 Paralympic Games: a harvest of 15 medals for Morocco

The curtain fell on Sunday on the Paralympic Games, Paris 2024. If the Olympic Games left many Moroccans hungry, except for Soufiane El Bakkali and the football team, the Paralympic Games brought a harvest of 15 medals, including 3 gold, won by the Moroccan champions present in Paris.

No fewer than five medals were won last weekend in the para-athletics events. In the women’s marathon (category T12), Fatima Ezzahra El Idrissi won the gold medalwith a world record, thanks to a race completed in 2h48m36sec. El Idrissi, who took control of the marathon from the first steps and did not look back, is accompanied on the podium by Maryam Nourhiwho won the silver medal with a time of 2h58m18sec. Nourhi achieved her best performance ever. Note that Nourhi was accompanied byAbdelhadi El Hartia former Paralympic champion who served as Meryem’s guide.

In men, the legend El Amine Chentouf won the bronze medal (2h24m35sec). At 43 years old, El Amine cemented his reputation as a legendary athlete, winning a fifth medal in four participations in the Paralympic Gamesa third medal in the marathon alone. Saturday, Aymane El Haddaoui won the 400m event (T47 category), winning the gold medal, along with a world record (46.65 seconds). He was followed by his compatriot Ayoub Sadni (47.16 seconds), who won the silver medal. Sadni was also the reigning Paralympic champion, having won the 400m in Tokyo.

The medal harvest and the performance of the Moroccan para-athletes can only command respect. In the face of so many difficulties and obstacles, the strength of character that marked Moroccan participation in the Paralympic Games should inspire all Moroccans. Or at least, those who consider that success, not participation, is at the heart of performance.
