Our first taste of FALL AIR arrives this weekend

BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – Set your coffee makers. Grab the light hoodies. Meet me outside in 10 minutes.

Yes, FALL (by September standards) is paying us a visit this weekend and into early next week!

Nevermind how brief it will be, but, yay! We deserve this. Here’s everything you need to know:

“Drier” Feeling starts Friday

We have had a stationary front draped over the Gulf Coast for a lot of this week, with a weak low pressure system flinging moisture at Southeast Texas and the Brazos Valley. A large trough of low pressure will drag a big swath of cool Canadian air through the Great Plains and into the state of Texas Friday night into Saturday. Right now, it looks like that front will officially arrive Saturday morning, but before that, brisk northeast winds should give us some slightly drier air to work with Friday.

Thanks to that gulf low, we still can’t rule out a quick, passing shower or two through Friday afternoon, but they look to be light and isolated. Friday evening plans look fantastic. It will be a little muggy, like the past couple nights, but comfortable.

Get ready! Fall air is coming for a brief stay in the Brazos Valley, but it comes just at the right time.(KBTX)

Saturday’s wind and cooler air

Get ready! You’ll feel a noticeable amount of drier air come wake up time Saturday, but that’s really just the beginning.

Expecting things to turn breezy as early as the morning, but certainly by the afternoon hours. Some gusts up to 30mph will be possible as an even drier airmass ushers itself in – it will still be toasty, but high temperatures in the upper 80s will cool quickly in the evening. Not all of us will need jackets by that point by any means, but at least a few of us will be reaching for the extra layers by sunset.

Bottom of the cool valley: Monday morning

Monday will be a perfect example of what a calm, clear, and DRY night can do in terms of cooling down. Though some models have widespread FIFTIES to start the day, I believe B/CS will settle in the low 60s to get the day started, with 50s generally along and north of the Highway 21 corridor. We warm quickly into the upper 80s in the afternoon, but it will be a lovely start to the day.

Speaking of that start, IF we get down to 63°, that would be the coolest morning since May 17. If we get ONE DEGREE COOLER…

…Coolest morning since APRIL 23 (54°)!

The overall driest air is Sunday, but Monday should be the coolest morning. Both times, many of us outside of B/CS will drop below 60!(KBTX)
Lows will slowly climb back into the low 70s by Tuesday morning, but if you can handle the added humidity, we’re not expecting any stuffy weather anytime soon.(KBTX)

Humid air (and perhaps more widespread rain) return

Many of us will feel that added gulf moisture as soon as we step out the door Tuesday, though it will still likely be widespread below 70°. That added moisture could make for some fog, then we get back to business as usual, or what we’ve have seen for the past week or so. That same pesky low pressure system that has been lingering in the gulf may in fact throw more moisture at us yet again by midweek next week.

This would be our next chance for widespread rain, but at the very least, we will step right back into the humid weather that we have seen for the past week or so.

Long story made short: Cooler and drier air is coming! Take advantage, but don’t get used to it! If you were looking for rain, we may not be far away at all from our next shot at showers and storms, so stay tuned.

Widespread rain may return as early as Tuesday to parts of the area, but more likely not until Wednesday. Rainfall totals could vary wildly depending on the positioning of the same low we’ve been tracking all week.(KBTX)
