      return
      of
      a
      phobic,
      funny
      and
      endearing
      hero!

Monk is back. With his OCD and his 312 phobias! The hero of TF1’s Sunday afternoons, between 2003 and 2010 – 8 seasons and 125 episodes – is back for an eventful evening.

Monk is the fusion between Sherlock Holmes, Columbo and Inspector Clouseau. A hero oscillating between drama and comedy, a detective in a dull suit, flanked by his team consisting of his nurse and assistant, a captain and a police lieutenant. The man surprises with his keen sense of observation and his eidetic memory, namely an ability to record a sum of sound, visual details, but also smells.

No matter the plot..

Monk, a surprising, annoying and endearing hero. Monk, a superhero of deduction who always begins his speech with the expression “this is what happened”. A series without special effects or frenetic pace. And yet, it works!

But tonight, Monk appears tired, weary. The retired police officer had a very bad time with the covid period. A book project retracing his career has just been canceled by his publisher. The investigator had never seemed so fragile, enough to worry his daughter-in-law. As for the evening’s investigation? Monk is looking for the murderer of her partner. A journalist by trade, the young reporter was preparing to make revelations about a billionaire, a substitute for Elon Musk.

A plot that is not particularly exciting. What does it matter? Because the main thing is elsewhere: reliving 1h30 in Monk’s universe. Hearing the credits performed by Randy Newman again. Laughing again at Monk’s antics. Having fun looking in each scene for that detail that will contribute to solving the investigation.

To admire an actor’s number again and again. Indeed, what would Monk be without Tony Shalhoub?
The actor plays this character with genius. Without ever giving in to caricature, he subtly interprets the role of the detective. And proves his immense comic talent.

Fans of the series, like Ali Rebeihi – Monk would have made an excellent guest on Grand Bien Vous Fasse – cannot miss this double episode.

“Monk, the return” is tonight on TF1 from 9.10 p.m.
