Inter Miami scored a fatal victory over its host Toronto, with a goal scored by Leonardo Campana in the third minute of stoppage time for the match.
Argentine star Lionel Messi, who won the World Player of the Year award eight times previously, came off the bench in the 61st minute, while Jordi Alba, Luis Suarez and goalkeeper Drake Callender were absent from Inter Miami’s starting lineup.
Suarez, the former Uruguayan national team legend, came off the bench in the 71st minute and set up the winning goal for his colleague Campana.
Messi is preparing to participate with the Argentine national team in its next two matches in the World Cup qualifiers on October 10 and 15, and therefore his participation in the final match of the season with his team Inter Miami against its guest, New England, on the 19 of this month remains in doubt.
If Inter Miami wins the last match, it will end the season with 74 points, one point ahead of the record set by New England itself in the 2021 season, with 73 points.
