One-year-old baby seriously bitten in the face by American Staffordshire Terrier

The dog also attacked the little girl’s mother who tried to intervene. The animal belongs to the victim’s father.

A one-year-old girl was violently attacked by an American Staffordshire terrier on Monday afternoon in Villers-Saint-Paul in the Oise department. The child was seriously injured by the dog, which bit her in the face while she was in the family home. Her mother, who was trying to come to her aid, was “seriously injured on the hand by bites attributed to the same animal”said Senlis public prosecutor Loïc Abrial in a press release. Both were taken to the Amiens emergency hospital, but their condition is not life-threatening.

The American Staff that attacked the victims belongs to the little girl’s father, aged 23, who was absent at the time of the incident. In police custody, the latter admitted “that he had not carried out the formalities required for the possession of this type of animal, while indicating that his dog did not usually have aggressive behavior”the prosecutor explained. His custody was lifted “temporarily so that he could go to the bedside of his injured daughter”.

The Senlis public prosecutor’s office has opened a flagrant investigation into “unintentional injuries caused by dog ​​aggression” entrusted to the local judicial police service of Creil. Investigations are continuing in order to determine the exact circumstances of the attack as well as the precise status of the dog. The animal has since been placed in the pound.
